The School of Data Science is one of the few independent data science schools in the country, with dedicated leadership, staff and faculty not tied to another department. This independence greatly enhances the Data Science student experience.  Its students – ranging from Master in Data Science to undergraduate minor in data science—have the focused support of dedicated staff and faculty and, at the same time, enjoy the unique ability to leverage the best of UVA domain expertise and partnerships across Grounds.

A number of initiatives designed to distinguish and enhance the Data Science Student Experience rely on the support of corporate and individual support:

• Capstone Research Sponsorship by companies or organizations for Practice & Applications of Data Science
• SDS Inclusive Excellence Fellowship Support for students of color and first-generation females
• Sponsorship of Women in Data Science and Datapalooza conferences for students, alumni, and the greater UVA Community
• Corporate Partnerships supporting the recruiting and branding needs of employers in data science
