Why pursue a Ph.D. in Data Science?

I have always loved learning just about anything from music, arts, languages, and history to math and sciences. So, when I began to learn more about the up-and-coming field of data science and how it is highly interdisciplinary and yet to be fully defined, it seemed like a perfect fit for me. While I am just getting started and still do not fully know what I wish to pursue within the field, I have seen many examples of data science research being used for positive change. I hope to eventually do the same in my own work.
