Special Issue of Scientific Journal Honoring Dean Phil Bourne Published
The University of Virginia's School of Data Science is pleased to announce that a special issue of the journal Biomolecules commissioned to honor Dean Phil Bourne has been published and is available to be downloaded for free on the MDPI Books platform. A print version can also be purchased.
The volume, titled "Biomolecular Data Science -- in Honor of Professor Philip E. Bourne," was edited by two long-time collaborators and mentees of Bourne: Cameron Mura of UVA's School of Data Science and Lei Xie of CUNY Hunter College.
This special edition of Biomolecules is known as a festschrift, which is a volume that pays tribute to a highly respected individual, typically an academic, in their lifetime.
This festschrift includes an essay honoring Bourne's illustrious four-decade career as a practicing scientist and leader in academia and the open science movement, as well as more than a dozen papers on a range of topics in biomolecular data sciences. These selections, the essay notes, serve "as a fitting tribute to someone who has moved the field forward via his own work and by his steadfast support of many research communities, biomolecular and beyond."
Bourne is the founding dean of UVA's School of Data Science.
