Georgia Davidson, an M.S. in Data Science student in the one-year residential program, has earned a coveted position on the U.S. Senior National Karate Team after competing at the U.S. National Karate Team Trials in Denver at the University of Colorado. This achievement highlights her exceptional skill in kumite, where she is currently ranked as the third elite female fighter in the United States.

The selection process for the U.S. Senior National Karate Team is highly competitive. Athletes must first secure a top six finish in their respective elite kumite divisions at the National Championships to qualify for the Team Trials. At the Trials, competitors face a rigorous format that includes round-robin pool play followed by double elimination rounds to determine the top four athletes in each category.

Subject to her data science career pursuits, Davidson is set to represent the United States at international competitions in Malaysia and Austria later this year. Additionally, she has been named the first alternate for the Pan American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, this spring.

Davidson earned a B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia in 2024, also minoring in data science. She is pursuing the M.S. in Data Science to further her interest in using data science to advance sports medicine and athlete performance.
