Cameron Mura holds a dual appointment as a Senior Scientist at the School of Data Science and in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research interests include the structure, function, and evolution of RNA-processing assemblies, structural and computational biology, and molecular biophysics.

Mura’s research is extensive. He has done work in cell-cell communication networks ("quorum sensing"), mRNA splicing, structural biology (e.g., crystallography) and computational chemistry (e.g., molecular dynamics simulations), in addition to traditional wet-lab biochemistry. Prior to joining UVA in the Department of Chemistry in 2008, Mura was a Sloan Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Molecular Biology at the University of California, San Diego. During his time as a PH.D. student, Mura focused primarily in experimental biochemistry and macromolecular crystallography.

Mura earned his PH.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his B.S. in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
